Monthly General Meetings
This is a meeting for all members and guests. We meet on the first Thursday of each month. Our meetings run from 6:30-9:30pm.
Prospective members are generally welcome at up to three general meetings, before we expect dues. These meetings cover normal monthly business that must be discussed at the chapter level, as well as a speaker or training. There is also time to do some networking, socializing and most of the following traditions are practiced here.
Mr. IT (appointed by President at beginning of each general meeting - secretly)- at each general meeting you must shake hands with everyone at the meeting for a proper greeting. Mr. It could be anyone and will fine you at the end of the meeting for neglecting to offer up a proper welcome. The purpose of this tradition is to encourage networking and fellowship, as well as working on our handshakes.
Sheriff’s Report (appointed by President at beginning of each general meeting)- anyone can act as Sheriff, the sheriff’s job is to fine anyone for any reason!!! You can fine for tardiness, speaking out of turn, rumoured behaviour at various functions, it’s all in good fun. The purpose of the sheriff is to develop fellowship and inject some humour into the meetings, all without hurting feelings.
Parliamentarian - (appointed by President at beginning of each general meeting) The Parlimentarian role is to review the Roberts Rules of Order book, (which is like the bible for conduct and practices at formal meetings). Anyone can act as Parliamentarian and provides a repot of his observations in accordance with the Roberts Rules of Order and levees “fines” in accordance.
Travelling Jaycee - A statue and book which travels from member to member by being passed over some type of ‘getting to know you better’ situation. Is to promote social and friendship in the group. The Travelling JC’s are passed from member to member between general meetings. Failure to pass the Travelling JC before the next general meeting will result in a “fine” by the Chapter.
